U-Wing - Goldsaber Heavy Gunship refit.

I have to hand it to Incom, they really, REALLY know how to design their ships, when the Alliance first got it's hands on the T-65 I fell completely in love, being the first pilot in Goldsaber to use one was a true honor, well, first besides Chase who gave them a test run, taking the opportunity to show off... Still years later my X-Wing is my pride and joy (well, after Orchid obviously...), I've flown many ships over my Rebel career, Headhunters, Y-Wings, A-Wings, a bloody B-Wing, Corellian Freighters, and even a Tie Fighter... But I always end up back behind the flight-stick of my X-Wing, it's been through hell many times over, and it's a testament to the craftsmanship of Incom Corporation... ~Quinn Shara's Memoirs, New Republic years, on her adoration for Incom Corporation's ship design.

Okay, this one is more of a "What-if" than anything else, and what can I say, I absolutely ADORE the UT-60D U-Wing! And I just HAD to have fun with one, and give it a Goldsaber makeover!

The eagle eyed might notice that this is a little different to the standard U-Wing, this one featuring a Quad-Turret on the rear, primarily Goldsaber is a Fighter Squadron, whilst they do sometimes engage in infantry combat their primary role is fighter support, and creating diversions by essentially making a lot of noise, hence if they ever got their grubby mitts on a U-Wing it'd be re-purposed as a heavy gunship, with a Quad-Turret mounted on the rear, it also features two Duel-Turrets mounted on either side of the underside, where the large loading doors would be on a regular U-Wing, the doors themselves reduced in size to accommodate the Duel-Turrets, furthermore under the existing forward-facing laser cannons the Heavy Gunship is also equipped with torpedo-launchers. Due to the extensive modifications much of the large interior space is now taken up by consoles for operating the turrets, as well as extra power reserves and munitions for it's weapons. The ship is regarded as quite a beast, and has no shortage of scars, which the pilots of Goldsaber say: "Really adds to her character." 

Eheheh, again though, this isn't too serious, just me playing around, I really enjoyed drawing this ship, it's such a beauty, second only to the classic X-Wing, there's something about the design philosophy of these ships that truly awes me.
