The First Farewell - page 13 by MidoriNoHonoo The First Farewell - page 13 by MidoriNoHonoo
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Quinn Shara, a Force-sensitive teenager, struggles with the monotony of life on a backwater world, she craves a greater meaning in life as the rest of the Galaxy passes her by, she may well find that meaning however, as she crosses paths with Isabelle Devon, the leader of a fledgling rebel group. Will the ambitious young girl seize the opportunity to finally take charge of her destiny, and pursue her dream of becoming a Jedi?

Page thirteen of my Star Wars OC AU fan-comic-thingy!

Isabelle continues to ponder her current accommodation, the cramped bunks of the Action VI making her feel a little homesick for her own bed back home on Alderaan, before she can lose herself to those memories however she is reminded of the importance of her mission, the very reason her group is on Da'hren, if the fail her fledgling Rebellion will be over before it begins...

This was really fun to draw, like, REALLY fun, I love drawing ships, and it was fun to experiment with a space backdrop (So many stars... all individually done... It's tedious... But I hope it looks good... ;w; ), I really love Isabelle, when I draw her I'm always reminded that she'd one of my favourite characters, and that makes me sad because... Reasons... I'm really happy to be able to show more of her character, and there's plenty more to come! :D

Anyway, I hope you like it, I'm having a blast, as ever, feedback is greatly appreciated! :star:

Alright htis is amazing.

I love how pensive they are about their prospects. You can really tell that they're not quite used to their role as rebels just yet...you know I was thinking aobut it and amusingly enough I think we've created a more dynamic and interesting band of rebels than the show ever managed!

That last panel with all the starships is just beautiful, it's really fun to see the different starfighters all together like that flying in with the capital ships hanging behind them.

Heheh, thank you, I'm glad you like it!

Indeed, after all it's not like they wanted to go down this path, but circumstance pushed them to the point where they had to make a choice, and Isabelle couldn't live with the other option... I think she does feel a little guilty for having made the decision for everyone else, but there was no time to inform them, as we'll see a little later... ;w;
Eheh, I think it'd be a little too arrogant for me to agree, plus I have an unfair bias towards my own characters... XD

Plus I kinda' like Rebels, the first couple of episodes start a little weak, but it gets better and stays consistent, I have nitpicks sure, but I did enjoy it, a lot more than I was expecting, and I really like some of the characters, Hera and Kanan particularly, and the Kanan: The Last Padawan comic is probably the strongest of the current wave of Star Wars comics, so far at least... I'm excited for season two, as it looks like they're improving on a lot of things, plus they're bringing in more characters, both new and old, it looks pretty solid, for me it started off stronger than Clone Wars started, I started enjoying Clone Wars more during the second and third seasons. I know there are a section of the SW fandom that hate it on the principle that it's a new canon, and are very strongly anti-Disney, they harbor a strong bias and let that get in the way of looking at it objectively, and whilst I'm still a massive fan of the Legends continuity I think it's unfair to just hate all the new stuff on principle, it's something I think I'm gonna have to address when I do my Q&A, as there was a related question, I'm flattered of course when people say stuff like your stuff is way better than Disney's, but I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable for a few reasons, first off objectively speaking some folks have a strong negative bias to Disney, so hearing they like your stuff better than the stuff they already hate brings some discomfort (I know they mean well...), and second I kinda' like the Disney stuff, I still vastly prefer the old canon because of the wealth and quality of content, hence why I haven't delved into the new canon even with fanart, but I do like some of the new stuff as well... By the way, please don't worry about if this made me feel uncomfortable, I do still take it as a complement, it's just something that's been on my mind regarding several other commenters and such, this is the first time I've really talked about it since we're friends I'm more comfortable. ;w;

Ugh, sorry for that massive deviation off topic... ^^;

Heheheh, well you know I like starships, I wanted to end this page with a dynamic shot of the fleet, since they've been referencing the others, it's a little way of teasing the reader, whilst satisfying my need to draw ships! XD Those panels are fun, and I'm glad you like it, as those stars are a nightmare, I'm using a ball-point gel pen, so every one is an individual jab, it's inconvenient, but it's the limitations of the media. ^^;

Page 14 should be up very soon, it's already finished and scanned, just fixing the contrast and it'll be up! ^w^
Again, thank you very much for writing up the story, this definitely wouldn't be happening otherwise, I've never continued with a comic this long before! ;w;

You know a part of me is really tempted to write something about how this entire mess got started...it sounds like you've got plans though so I am worried about stealing your thunder!

The thing I like about Rebels is their starship design. That's about the only thing I've really liked. The characters from what I've seen are very one dimensional with a few exceptions and the story writing itself is far too childish for me to get excited over. That added to the low production values (lower than the first Clone Wars season) just puts me off and the fact that the character development is so poorly handled just makes for a poor performance overall. About the only thing I find interesting are the villains but they don't explore or use them enough to make good on that interest. The main cast is mostly forgettable beyond Hera and Kanan who have potential but haven't yet been exploited. Combine all that with the complete disregard for what used to be canon and I just get angry honestly.

As for bias against Disney, no not at all. In fact I love Disney, I adore their work but I also dislike what they've done with Star Wars and feel that it could have been handled much better than what they've done.

So when I say, as an honest fan of both Star Wars and Disney, that I find your 'rebels' more compelling and engaging characters than the current TV show I am in earnest and not just hating on the show or Disney but expressing an honest thought out opinion.

I actually showed your work (and explained your physical state in brief) to some coworkers of mine and they are very impressed with what you do so feel damned proud of it and the skill with which you execute your work.

Eheheh, thunder...? I'm worried about pissing folks off, so I want to handle it a little softer... I certainly don't want to lose any followers, and god forbid I lose friends cuz' of it! ;w;

That's all fair, and with regards to the whole bias thing that's more to do with other folks, there is a section that is very vocal about their complete disdain for all of the new stuff, and when they're then holding me on a pedestal it just makes me feel awkward, I'm not really the kind of person who wants to be compared to other people, I hate the drama that comes with it, especially when they're using my work in comparison with something I actually like... Eh, maybe I'm just being stupid, I mean, I know it's bound to happen, so maybe I'm just making a deal out of nothing... Bleargh, I think it's just my head playing with me, I need stronger meds, I've been getting more anxious lately so it might be time to see the doctor.

I know, that's why I brought it up, cuz' I know you give honest, no bullshit opinions, and I appreciate it.

Eheheh, ah man, now I'm embarrassed, you're far too kind, I am proud of where I'm at, when I look back at the half-baked junk I was uploading when I first started here, I can honestly say I've gotten better, thanks man.

Well like I said, I have ideas I want to explore involving Isabelle and company (see note) on their last aid mission that goes terribly wrong...and I doubt you will lose followers or friends over it. Your work is still your work and impressive after all so eh?

You know how many timesp eople tell me that Disney needs to hire me to write for them? It happens with great frequency and I disagree with it heartily! It's gotten to the point that rayn44 and another friend of mine are conspiring to send a manuscript to Disney with the first episode of my Clone Wars material! I honestly take it as a compliment and a healthy dosage of salt and just carry on carrying on.

What I think is amusing is how I find your people. All of my closest digital friends are extremely anxious and nervous people, it's very odd because the people I know in person are quite the opposite!

I do hope you feel better though.

Well they were asking about my writing after seeing the book Rayn sent me and I showed them our group and they were very impressed by the body of work we've all produced there.

That sounds interesting, I'm all for it. :meow: (Hakiim laid that sucker out! XD)
Eh, again, anxiety, probably worrying a hell of a lot over nothing, it's what I do best. ;w;

Eh, as someone who likes Disney I'm inclined to agree, whilst I like their stuff I like yours more. Not gonna lie, it'd be sweet to work with Disney though! XD
Pfft-- Heheheh, well there's a difference with working with them as opposed to being compared against them, but yeah, you're right. ^_^

Heheh, well we introverts tend to stay indoors whilst the extroverts roam that mysterious and scary realm known as "The Outside"... XD

Thanks, I'll be sure to get an appointment asap.

That's cool. :meow: It's great that they liked it, most of my offline friends don't have any interest in my OC stuff, so it's nice to feel appreciated. ^w^

You may want to take a look at what I just created actually...you can hate me later.

Yeah, believe me I understand how anxiety is. I certainly know enough people with the issue to be sympathetic and I suffer from a good dosage of it myself at times.

Well we'll see what their scheme does...for all I know Disney will just hunt my ass down and try to sue me for what I've been up to!

I tend to go between the in and out and often drag everyone else along for the ride. Despite being socially awkward, I'm quite gregarious and all for socializing and dragging people in my wake for some fun and random adventure.
