Operation: Dream Catcher. by MidoriNoHonoo Operation: Dream Catcher. by MidoriNoHonoo
We've finally discovered the location of the "Nightmare", she lies hidden in a Nebula, licking her wounds... Now is the time to strike, whilst the beast is wounded we'll seize her for ourselves! Our main targets are the areas around the scaffolding, Bombers, your objective is to create a breach big enough to get infantry transports through, and then engage the enemy Star Destroyer escorts. Spotter Squadron, your ships are carrying Buoys, we have a few battle-cruisers hidden deep within the Nebula, they'll lock onto those buoys after they've been deployed, you'll drop them near the enemy's Star Destroyer escorts. Infantry, once you're inside your goal is to capture key system controls, weapons systems being priority, once you have control of their weapons turn them on their fleet to draw pressure off our fighters, I doubt they'll fire on their own flagship, it's the backbone of their fleet, once it falls they'll either surrender, or flee. Everyone else, do your best to provide cover. One final word, do not attempt to take the Bridge until I've boarded, "Nightmare" is commanded by a Dark Jedi, she's inexperienced at command, and mentally unstable, but incredibly powerful in close combat and the Force, I will take her myself.
-Quinn Shara, Operation: Dream Catcher briefing.

Yay, Star Wars OC stuffs! This is an operation where Quinn's star shines it's brightest, her most ambitious undertaking, and greatest personal triumph (besides raising Orchid), the capture of the Super Star Destroyer Nightmare and it's fleet, as well as the surrender of her rival Kiri Starchaser.

Let's recap:
After Endor Kiri fled, with the Emperor dead she had no one to guide her, she was lost, but was eventually picked up by a warlord named Erbon, formerly an Admiral in Palpatine's Navy, he used his fleet to declare himself a regional warlord and began vying for power, Kiri was enraged by this prospect, and murdered him, seizing control of his fleet for herself, however she had never commanded a fleet before, and without the dark influence of the Emperor her mental state was in decline. She lead a short, violent campaign with the fleet against the Alliance, her victories were ultimately insignificant however as her inexperience lead to her own forces sustaining substantial damage, eventually her near-crippled flagship was forced into hiding.

In a bold attempt to seize assets for the Alliance to restore the Republic, Quinn planned an ambitious strategy to seize the fleet, however her true motive was to confront Kiri, and redeem her; at Endor she had sensed what Kiri really was, a scared girl trapped in darkness, she now wanted only to save her from her misery, and train her to use the Force for good.

After the operation the captured Super Star Destroyer was renamed Goldsaber in honour of Quinn's Goldsaber Squadron, however it's name would be changed two more times during it's New Republic service, after the death of the redeemed Kiri Starchaser during the Yuuzhan Vong war it was renamed the Starchaser in her memory, years later in ABY-41, after Quinn gave her life fighting a Sith acolyte, it was renamed Shara's Legacy to commemorate all her achievements, it carried that name until it's eventual destruction a few decades later.
Phew! This was fun, a little tricky getting the perspectives of the ships right, and the little details, but yeah, it was fun. The idea wasn't actually inspired from anything Star Wars, but rather the second Attack on Titan opening theme!… I listened to it again recently and (Particularly around 0:45) imagined hundreds of X-Wings flying at blistering speeds through a brilliant golden nebula to engage a massive Imperial force, and viola', this was born. ^_^
Gotta say, of all the awesome Star Wars ships X-wings and Y-wings are still my favourite, they got that retro vibe, like a Vespa-scooter, or a Volkswagen-camper, y'know? And yeah, if you read the above you can probably tell that the Extended Universe is still my headcanon. ;P

I like how Quinn looks in the corner, she's issuing the order to CHARGE! XD
I gave her helmet an old Jedi insignia on the side too, cuz' y'know, she's a Jedi. :meow:
Also I really love the Imperial Battle-Cruiser's design, so I had to draw a few flanking the Nightmare. :la:

Anyway, though the background is blergh, I'm happy enough with everything else, and I hope ya'll like!

Indeed! Honestly, I love Super Star Destroyers (or star dreadnoughts to give them their me'h name... XD), that particular one is actually massively significant to my AU, it's the same ship as in this:

And after that it serves as Quinn's personal Vault, as she seeks out ancient relics and artifacts and gathers them for safe keeping, stuff like Sith Holocrons that could prove dangerous in the wrong hands, I can think of no better guard than a fully armed Super commanded by a Jedi! XD

I'm going to be a ship junkie and ask: which class of SSD? but I assume you mean the Executor-class hehe.

It cetainly is no small task to take one of those monsters though, one of the largest ships ever in Star Wars!

Huh, that's actually really cool honestly...though I wonder who the heck she gets to crew that thing!

(my apologies for the late replys, been a bit ill lately ^^; )

Technically an Executor-class, however with some design variation, such as an experimental stealth drive, it's construction was actually largely funded by a Hutt cartel (in a deal with the Empire to turn a blind eye to the cartel's illicit activities), and constructed in Hutt space, it's construction was slated to be complete before the battle of Endor, however a slave revolt led to delays.

Indeed, though thankfully it's a wounded beast, Kiri isn't a very experienced commander, and in her blind rage after Endor she waged a reckless campaign against the Rebellion, her ship inflicting far less damage than it suffered due to her worsening mental state...

I'm glad you like it! During the early Vong campaign it's mostly crewed by volunteer soldiers, refugees and local militia from ravaged worlds wanting to fight back, after the war ends many of them are left with no where to return to, and continue to serve aboard her, they kind of become like a small private navy, affiliated with the Jedi order and Republic, and whilst it's primary purpose is to secure knowledge and relics Quinn also uses it to keep the peace on the fringes of wild space, acting as a mediator in border disputes and defending vulnerable colonies from pirates. :meow:

Oh no worries about the late replies!

Like I'm constantly reminding rayn44 BrET13 and Vizu there is no deadline for commentary replies!

Ah so a custom job like the Lusankya or (K)Night Hammer, very cool.

Jeez, so basically she went Ysanne Isard on them and just started lashing out, eventually wearing down what resources she had until she was overwhelmed. That's not a very pleasant way to go!

Hah, I love it! It's the Errant Venture only twelve times the size! God the Galactic Alliance and Imperial Remnant must have been shitting themselves with that thing just floating through space!

Heh oh there's no deadline, probably we just don't like to let others wait for our replies! And it seems we're not alone!
